Patriots Set the Standard at Loudoun Latin Day

Congratulations to Park View High School’s Latin Club for its dominant showing at the first ever Loudoun Latin Day, held at Loudoun County High School on December 17th.

In academics, Park View was the only school whose teams reached the finals on both levels of the Super-Certamen. The county-wide, single-elimination academic team tournament featured teams from Dominion, Harmony Intermediate, Heritage, Loudoun County, Loudoun Valley, Stonebridge and Potomac Falls in addition to Park View.

Spencer, Imran, Tobias, and Phil defeated Harmony Intermediate, Dominion and Loudoun Valley en route to winning first place on the Lower Level. On the Upper Level, Kevin, Bethany, Caitlin, and Brady defeated Potomac Falls, and two successive teams from Loudoun County to win first place as well.

Park View also dominated the arts and crafts competitions, racking up a total of twelve awards. Bethany earned the convention’s only “Best-In-Show” award for her first-place hand-drawn and Latin scripted Children’s Book. David and Maggie also took home top honors in Large models and Illustrated Quotes respectively. Jake placed second in Cartoons; Spencer placed second in Posters; Prianka took home a third place in Illustrated Quotations, second in Children’s Books, and second in Charts; Thanh-Thao received an Honorable Mention in Small Models; and Phil won Honorable Mention in Children’s Books and second place in Mosaics.

Finally, Park View also placed second in the Latin Skit competition with their all-Latin rendition of the Abbot and Costello comedy sketch routine “Who’s On First?” Adam and David starred in the skit, which was written and directed by Kevin and Bethany. Matt provided narration while Maggie and Jake provided stage assistance with scenery.
